Lent Devotionals

Lent is a time of reflection, repentance and refocus on the life of Christ. This is the first week of Lent and the beginning of our 40 day time of preparation. I would like to invite you to join me in reconnecting with our foundational spiritual disciplines of reading the scriptures, praying, fasting, and giving focus to the sacrifice which Christ willingly made for all on the cross.  Blessings as you walk with Him.                           Pastor Jim

The Season of Lent – 2013

Holy Week

We now enter Holy Week as we retrace the footsteps of Jesus when He entered Jerusalem for  His final hours on earth.  As we have walked through the past 4 weeks of reflection, repentance and re-focus on the life of Christ, we have sought to draw close to Him.  Today, in our final week, we look at the Passion of Christ.  Please allow this little devotional draw your attention away from the cares and concerns of the world, and onto the Savior.  As the Scriptures say, “Draw near to God and he will draw near to you,” (James 4:8).   So join us as we all walk forward into Holy Week – the most Holy time of the Year for believers in Jesus Christ.  Don’t quit or stop now – we are but days away from the cross and then onto the blessings of our Resurrection Day Celebration.

Many blessings as you walk with Him.

VBS-Kids Camp 2012

Get ready for our annual summer Vacation Bible School – Kids Camp!  This year’s theme is God’s Big Backyard: Where kids have a blast serving Jesus.  Click here to downlad a Registration Form.

Hello Parents and Grandparents!

We are delighted to invite your child to Glen Ellen Church’s “God’s Big Backyard: Where kids have a blast serving Jesus” from June 25-28, 6:15-8:30 p.m. We’ve chosen a wide variety of interesting and fun activities, which we selected –not only because we think your child will enjoy them and experience a community service element—but also because they will provide an opportunity for your child to learn more about the greatest treasure ever: God’s love.

Each day your child will navigate through Backyard Bible Club, Backyard Fun & Food, Clothesline Creations and Community Corner (a community service center)!  Please daily ask your child to share what they have learned and made that day.

Our mission project for this year is to continue our ”adoption” of 8 year old Marco Antonio Molohua of Mexico.  Through World Vision, we will be paying $35 a month to cover his health and educational expenses.  We hope to raise some of the $420 needed for the yearlong adoption. Please bring your coins/paper money each night as we try to reach this goal. This is fun as the girls compete with the boys to see which wins. (Secret: We all win!)

Sincerely, Pastor Jim Hill, Glen Ellen Community Church

THURSDAY EVENING IS FAMILY BBQ NIGHT:  Your entire family (including grandparents) is invited at 6:15 p.m. to accompany your child through “God’s Big Backyard”.  At about 7:00 that evening, dinner will be served from the grill: hotdogs, hamburgers & trimmings will be provided by the church along with a beverage.  Families are asked to bring a salad or dessert dish to share with others.   Our traditional breaking of the piñata will follow the dinner so don’t miss this fun ending to Kids Camp “God’s Big Backyard”

Pastor Jim Ordination

Church pastor’s often go through a rigorous 4+ year vetting process for a denomination to declare them eligible for ordination in one of their churches, and the Evangelical Free Church of America is no exception.  Therefore, the Board of Glen Ellen Community Church is proud to announce that our own Pastor Jim Hill has achieved this milestone and therefore, on Saturday April 21st at 5:00 p.m., we will be conducting a “Solemn Service of Ordination” here at the church.  This celebration service will recognize not only Jim and Brenda’s 35 years of ministry in a number of church and para-church roles, but will affirm the decision of the denomination to ordain Jim as one of their pastors.  This is a time of great rejoicing for not only our church, but for our community as well.  A reception will follow in our own Mayflower Hall.

Serving Christ in the community of Glen Ellen and beyond since 1894

Glen Ellen Community Church

Sunday Service is at 10:00 a.m. weekly.

Welcome to the website of Historic Glen Ellen Community Church.  We are a group of people who are seeking to pursue God and make Jesus Christ the Lord of our lives through the study of God’s Word, through our worship of Him as Lord of all, and in our efforts to be a blessing to those around us.  We believe that as we gather on Sundays, our time is a Spiritual environment of belonging and expectation in community, so that each week when we leave, our hearts respond quickly with “surely the Lord was in this place.”

Pastor Jim Hill

It is our prayer that as you review this site, you will see us and want to get to know us more.  It is our prayer that your life will be most blessed and strengthened by the power of Jesus Christ and that you will live a life of abundance in fellowship, joy and liberty in Him.  Come and join us as we worship the living God.

Sincerely in Christ,

Pastor Jim
