DATES!!!: June 25-28 from 6:15-8:30 p.m. Open to kids aged 4-12 and it’s FREE as always.

Pastor Jim Ordination

Church pastor’s often go through a rigorous 4+ year vetting process for a denomination to declare them eligible for ordination in one of their churches, and the Evangelical Free Church of America is no exception. Therefore, the Board of Glen Ellen Community Church is proud to announce that our own Pastor Jim Hill has achieved this milestone and therefore, on Saturday April 21^st at 5:00 p.m., we will be conducting a “Solemn Service of Ordination” here at the church. This celebration service will recognize not only Jim and Brenda’s 35 years of ministry in a number of church and para-church roles, but will affirm the decision of the denomination to ordain Jim as one of their pastors. This is a time of great rejoicing for not only our church, but for our community as well. A reception will follow in our own Mayflower Hall.

Mark your calendars for these upcoming Easter Events:

April 6 @ 7:00 p.m. Good Friday Communion Service – Follow the last hours of our Lord and Savior from Scripture as he served his disciples at the Last Supper up and until His death on the cross. We close the service with a powerful portrayal of Death’s own shadow passing over the cross and remaining as it did on Calvary’s mount.

April 8 @ 10:00 a.m. Easter Sunday Resurrection Service and Children’s Program. Celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus with the folks at Glen Ellen Community Church. Lots of good food after the service. Also at 10:00 am, please join our Children’s Service with Easter Egg hunt during the adult service. Easter program tailored for children.

Gordon Lewis 8/13/1936 to 3/1/2012

Gordon Lewis, member of Glen Ellen Community Church and friend to all, had a peaceful passing at 2:45 p.m. on March 1. I am privileged to have spent a wonderful 23 years with him and am so encouraged to know that he is now happy with the Lord in heaven, no more pain. And not only that, but that we all have the opportunity to see him again when our time on this earth has ended.

A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, March 10, at 2 p.m. at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church at 16290 Arnold Drive, Sonoma, CA 95476. Gordon was remembered lovingly by all and His homegoing into the presence of the Lord was echoed over and over. Gordon was cremated and interred at the Sacramento Valley Veterans Cemetery in Dixon, CA, on Tuesday, March 13, 2012.

Dinner & A Movie

Please join us Saturday March 17th for a St. Patrick’s Day “Dinner and a Movie” at Glen Ellen Community Church located at 5311 O’Donnell Lane, Glen Ellen (behind the Post Office). The movie will be “Courageous,” the story of four men called to serve and protect as police officers. While they consistently give their best on the job, good enough seems to be all they can muster as dads. But they’re quickly discovering that their standard is missing the mark. So then, how do they become the kind of dads that make a lifelong impact on their children? Protecting the streets is second nature to these men. Raising their children in a God-honoring way? That’s COURAGEOUS! Our cuisine for the evening will be traditional corned beef and cabbage with potatoes and carrots, decaf coffee, soft drinks and desert. A donation to defray meal expenses is a suggested $5 per person, for adults and children over 13 only as this is a PG 13 rated movie. Seating is limited so reservations are required and can be obtained by calling Glen Ellen Community Church at 996-1479. Please join us for a great evening together.

New Preaching Series for 2012

New Preaching Series on Romans

Beginning Sunday, January 8^th, Pastor Jim Hill will begin a new Preaching series through what is easily one of the most important books of the Bible, the book of Romans. “The book of Romans is clearly the Christian’s Constitution – a believer’s Magna Carta,” Hill said recently. “It reveals the Almighty Creator’s plan for the Ages which He chose to breathe out through human agency.” This series, titled Romans: Authentic Faith and Purpose, promises to include a detailed walk through this most important treatise on God and His purposes here on Earth. Glen Ellen Community Church is a Bible-believing church and gathers at 10:00 am on Sunday for worship at 5311 O’Donnell Lane in the village of Glen Ellen. We are a group of people who are seeking to pursue God and make Jesus Christ the Lord of our lives through the study of God’s Word, through our worship of Him as Lord of all, and in our efforts to be a blessing to those around us. We believe that as we gather on Sundays, our time is a Spiritual environment of belonging and expectation in community, so that each week when we leave, our hearts respond quickly with “surely the Lord was in this place.”

Live Nativity = A huge success

Thanks to those of you who came out for the Live Nativity. Characters in costume were on hand to reenact the Nativity story to the narration of our own Dave Ginter. Donkeys, goats, miniature zebu and a camel will accompanied our Wise Men, Shepherds, angels and Mary and Joseph through the trip into Bethlehem to hear the Good News of Jesus’ birth.

Cookies, hot cider, cocoa and Christmas Carols during the intermissions made this night magical!
